Kayak polo is an official international sport best described as a mix between basketball and water polo. Several of Texas’s best players represent the USA internationally at both the Jr. and Sr. level. It's an exciting game played in ten-minute halves on a 35x23 meter court, with goals raised 6 feet above the water at each end. The object of the game is to use your hands or paddle to score the most goals against the opposing team. Each team consists of 5 players with a kayak, helmet with facemask, paddle and lifejacket. It's good exercise for both the body and mind, and a great sport for building strength, courage and teamwork.
Where?
You are welcome to enjoy the beautiful spring water at Rio Vista Falls, and the fellowship of a community of paddlers again this year Nov 1st. The first Saturday of November each year we get together to celebrate paddling, but never before have we had folks coming from all over the country to do it. Because this year’s event includes the National Championships for Kayak Polo you can not only enjoy the best of whitewater events at the new Rio Vista Falls, but you can sit back on the deck of the San Marcos River Pub and enjoy some intense kayak competition on the polo court out front! Heather Corrie, Pablo McCandless, and Scott Parsons started their year paddling in San Marcos and went on to qualify and then compete in this year’s Olympic Games. The Red River Racing Team is a 501 c-3 non-profit team based locally out of San Marcos, TX.
