U14 - Barton Bantams
- Barton Bantams was created to let young athletes know that they are being noticed and that they are important to the future of sprint paddling in the USA.
- Bantam athletes paddling at the Nationals are assigned points based on their results in Bantam singles and doubles in the final events 1000m and doubles long distance events.
- These athletes are then nationally ranked in the canoe and kayak disciplines.
- U14 athletes have the potential to be future Olympic champions like Greg Barton, ’88 Double Gold Medalist
- Barton Bantams have their names and club name posted on the USA Canoe Kayak website
- Each Bantam athlete has the opportunity to tally their fall paddling kilometers for a two month period beginning at a time in the fall that the club coach identifies in the Yearly Plan.
- Athletes that accumulate 200 km in the designated two month interval will receive a recognition award from USA Canoe Kayak.
- Fall 200km Club USA Canoe Kayak charts are issued at the Nationals to all clubs to post at their club training site in order to track athlete totals.
- Juvenile aged athletes paddling at the Nationals are assigned points based on their results in the juvenile 1000m singles and doubles final events and results in long distance event selected.
- The athlete is then ranked in canoe or kayak based on those performances.
- The Singles Ranking Lists from the National Championships, August 20 - 23, 2009 is the sole determining competition.
- A number of these athletes are then invited to attend the 2009 Fall Discipline Camps.
- Junior aged athletes paddling at the Nationals are assigned points based on their results in the junior 500 and 1000m singles final events.
- The athlete is then ranked in canoe or kayak based on those performances in the final events.
- The Singles Ranking lists from the National Championships, August 20-23, 2009 will be the sole determining competition.
- All of these athletes that are 2011 eligible will be asked to attend the 2008 Fall Discipline Camps.
- Each year a Junior Elite Team is selected to compete in a major international event.
- The 2009 Moscow Junior World Championships will serve as that event.
- Athletes that are nominated to the National Junior Elite Team in a given year have attained the highest ranking in the USA Canoe Kayak National Development Junior Program
- The first year a competitor can compete in a junior category is the year that his/her 15th birthday falls in and the last year he/she can compete as a junior is the year that his/her18th birthday falls.
- Athletes nominated will be selected based on selection criteria approved by the Sprint Selection Committee.
- 2011 eligible athletes are expected to attend the 2009 Fall Discipline Training Camps.
