Carolina Kayak Polo Club Places 3rd at Nationals

Eleven members of the Carolina Kayak Polo Club based in Charlotte returned home from a long and exciting weekend of competition in San Marcos Texas last  weekend. The club was competing in the 2008 Kayak Polo Club Nationals hosted by the local Austin club. Twenty three teams from all over the United States and Canada completed in four divisions - Club A, B, Women and Under 21.

Carolina entered two teams one each into the Club A and Club B divisions of this fast moving and exhilarating water sport. Carolina Storm, the Club A team, managed to finish third in only its second year of entering at this level. This was behind the local winners Austin Aquabat team and runners up from San Francisco club.

The Carolina Shipwrecks again played in the B division and ran home as winners beating the Austin Gentleman team 6-3 in the final.

Carolina Kayak Polo were formed in 2004 and play during the summer at McDowell Nature Reserve on Lake Wylie. In the winter they practice indoors at both the Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics Center and the MCAC on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.  Newcomers are welcome, no previous paddling experience is required and all tuition and equipment is provided by the club.
