Club Spotlight: Manayunk Dragon Boat Racing Team

The Manayunk Dragon Boat Racing Team has been fielding Men's, Women's and Youth dragon boat teams for the past four years. Members of these teams have been representatives of multiple United States Team: 2007 World Championships (Sydney, Australia) and 2009 World Games in (Kaohsiung, Taiwan). In August 2010, members of MDBRT wiil likely participate in the 2010 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The Manayunk program has been working with the Manayunk Development Corporation for the past few years with their projects and have run five (5) classes offered through the Mount Airy Learning Center. Currently, the Manayunk program is reaching out to local high schools for the purpose of growing the youth program. In addition, the Manayunk program also offers Team Building programs for local and nationaly based companies.

The Manyaunk Dragon Boat Racing Team is fully aware of the challenges facing the Schuylkill River and offices its services to assist the various local organizations to help them reach their goals and objectives.

Recently, the Manayunk Dragon Boat Racing Team competed at the Orlando International Championships in Disney and won all divisions - Men, Women and Mixed.

Head Coach, Mike Blundetto, has recently been appointed as the North East Regions Director and the Coaching and Training Chairman of Dragon Boat USA. Dragon Boat USA is a Non-Olympic Discipline within USA Canoe/KayakK (US Canoe/Kayak - responsible for USA Olympic Paddle Sports) the recognized US National Governing Body for Dragon Boat within the ICF.
