LCKC to Host 2009 USACK Sprint National Championships!

David Yarborough July 15, 2009

This year’s USA Canoe/Kayak Canoe Sprint National Championships will return to the beautiful site of the 1996 Olympic Games on Lake Lanier in north Georgia. This venue has hosted numerous previous nationals and the 2003 World Championships in addition to the Olympic Games.

“We are delighted that the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club has stepped up to mount our most important sprint event of the year.  The Olympic legacy facilities there are unmatched and the Gainesville community has always warmly welcomed our athletes from around the country with traditional southern hospitality” stated David Yarborough, USA Canoe/Kayak Executive Director.  “The proximity to the Atlanta airport and the support of several local hotel properties will allow participants to take advantage of the support two of our Olympic sponsor partners, Hilton Hotels and United Air Lines.”

The National Championships will be contested in a new streamlined schedule format over three days, August 20-23. Competitions will be held for all age groups, including masters.

Yarborough also expressed his confidence that this will be an excellent regatta for sprint athletes and fans. “We have heard from all our major clubs around the country and are expecting a great turnout. We encourage everyone considering participating to make their arrangements to join us at Lake Lanier for this great competition.”
