USA Canoe/Kayak announces the 2009 Slalom World Cup Team
Stacey Hepp May 19, 2009
The 2009 Slalom Team trials were held May 15-17 on the Animas River, hosted by Durango Whitewater Club, a USA Canoe Kayak Center of Excellence. It was a weekend of huge whitewater and awesome racing by our athletes. We had a number of US Olympians on the water, including Benn Fraker, Casey Eichfeld, Eric Jackson, Brett Heyl, Scott Parsons, and Rick Powell. There were some surprising results on the water as it wasn’t over until it was over. For 3 separate classes, it came down to 2/100th of a percent, gut-wrenching for those waiting, as times were calculated and double-checked at the very end.
The USA Canoe Kayak World Cup Team will now make their preparations to travel to Europe as they represent the United States. It was great to see so many Olympians, National Team Members, and Juniors on the water. Thank you to the Durango Whitewater Club and their sponsors for the great hospitality, Animas Timing, Coaches, Kent Ford for announcing, officials, judges, volunteers and parents who gave their time, and as always thank you to all of our athletes.
