For Immediate Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  - USA Canoe/Kayak announced Friday that Nathan Luce has resigned as the Sprint Head National Team Coach.

"Being the Head Coach of the US sprint program was definitely a rewarding yet humbling task but I would not have traded it for the world" Luce said. "It was always an honor to share in many of our athletes' experiences and successes. I am confident that there will be many more international podiums with US sprint canoe-kayak athletes standing on them soon. "

Luce, a graduate of the University of Toronto, has served as Sprint Head Coach for the USA Canoe/Kayak since April 2005. During his tenure, Luce had the pleasure of coaching many U.S. Olympic hopefuls including World Cup Medalist and 2008 Olympian, Carrie Johnson. In 2008, Luce led the U.S. team in the Olympic Games in Beijing. Meanwhile, he has also coached U.S. athletes to victories in World Championships and World Cups including five World Cup medals in 2007.

As a coach, Luce brought high-energy and enthusiasm as well as a new methodology to the USA Canoe/Kayak Sprint program. Previously, he was head of the Mississauga Canoe Club in Mississauga, Ontario where he led the club to two national titles. In his first year at USA Canoe/Kayak, Luce was bestowed the Coach of the Year award.

"Nathan made some great contributions to our program during his four years" said William Irving, USA Canoe/Kayak National Teams Director. "We are grateful for all that he did during his tenure as the Head National Team Coach and he will be missed by the U.S. Sprint community."

Luce, a native of Ontario, Canada and father of two, intends to pursue other career goals while focusing more time with his family.

"We are grateful for Nathan's service to our athletes and sport. He leaves with us with respect and gratitude of the USA Canoe/Kayak community and we wish Nathan well in his future pursuits" said USA Canoe/Kayak Interim Executive Director, Joe Jacobi.

Irving confirmed that a search for a new National Team Coach will begin immediately.
