Front Range Development Camp, Success!
USA Canoe/Kayak March 10, 2009
Cathy Hearn, USA Canoe Team Coach, came up to the Front Range after participating in a USOC Conference and offered a training camp to local slalom athletes. This was a timely opportunity for paddlers looking ahead to Jr. Trials as well as Senior Trials later this spring.
Cathy put in three full days and two evenings working with local athletes over the weekend. Nic Borst generously supported this effort as videographer, and coach. We were able to generate some new USA Canoe/Kayak memberships as well as membership renewals.
Dawson School Coach, Nate Lord, is very grateful to Cathy and to Nic for helping to build valuable momentum early in the season for the Dawson School Canoe and Kayak Team along with other Colorado athletes. We also took the opportunity to stage an impromptu competition of the sort recommended by Silvan Poberjai at last December's coaches conference. Though the training sessions were better attended than the competition, this competition was fun and provided valuable feedback on our training. There has never been a better time to be an active member of USACK!
