Mike McQuaid
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- USA Canoe/Kayak (www.USACK.org) announced today that it has engaged sports information veteran Mike McQuaid of Seattle to handle its media relations duties.

McQuaid, 43, brings over 20 years of experience in media relations, sports and business to the national governing body for the sport of canoe/kayak in the United States.

"We are extremely fortunate to have Mike join the sport of canoe/kayak,” said David Yarborough, Executive Director of USA Canoe/Kayak. “Mike has achieved a tremendous amount of success supporting Olympic sports on a regional level and he brings a highly professional approach to the media relations process to our organization,”  he said.  “With the Beijing Olympic Games less than a year away, it is essential that we have professional media relations support in-place to support our athletes and events.”

Since 2003, McQuaid’s public relations firm has supported the sport of rowing in the Northwest and in 2006 managed media operations for the North American Snowboarding Finals in Washington state.

He began his sports career with the Western Hockey League Seattle Breakers and has worked on the game-day sports information staffs at Washington State University and the University of Washington.

His sports information experience includes work with athletes competing in the Olympic Games, World Championships, Pan American Games, Goodwill Games, U.S. Olympic Trials, U.S. World Championships Trials, NorAm Snowboarding Finals, NCAA Final Four, NASCAR, NBA, NFL, and Major League Baseball.

McQuaid studied at the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.  As a competitive rower, he was named to the All Pac-10 Rowing Team while at WSU and won a National Championship for Philadelphia's Vesper Boat Club.
