Q: We have a number of athletes competing who will be taking AP Exams during the following 2 weeks.  These athletes are students around the US and may have difficulty returning to their home testing sites in time to take the AP Exams in some subjects. Is it possible for these students to register for AP Exams in Wausau WI rather than at their home testing sites?

--

A: Students can take the exams by arranging to test at a participating school that is willing to administer to them. They may call AP Services no later than March 1 to get the names and phone numbers of local AP Coordinators. Then contact the AP Coordinators no later than March 15.

They may contact us from Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 4:45 PM ET at (609) 771-7300 or (888) 225-5427 (toll-free in the U.S. and Canada). We also accept e-mail inquiries, but they must provide a zip code for the area in question.

When calling AP Coordinators to arrange testing, be sure to tell them:

* You are trying to locate a school willing to administer exams to home-schooled students or students from schools that do not offer AP Exams.
* The exams you plan to take.
* You will use a different school code so your exam score(s) will be reported separately from the school at which you test. Homeschooled students will use the state or international home-school code given to them on the day of the exam; students whose schools do not offer AP will use their own school's code.
* If you test at this school and your own during the same year, use the SAME AP Number.

Once you locate a school willing to administer your exams, that school's AP Coordinator is responsible for ordering your exam materials, telling you when and where to report for the exams, and collecting your fees, which may be negotiated to recover additional proctoring or administration costs. That school must administer the exams for you; the school cannot forward exam materials to you or your school for handling.

Be advised that the schools are not obligated to accommodate you. You must bring a valid government- or school-issued photo ID with you to the exam.

Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you. If you have additional questions about this issue, please do not hesitate to write us again. Your e-mail should include all previous messages you have received about this issue so we can provide the best possible service.

Sincerely,
AP Services
