Nicholas Borst

A native of Colorado has been working as a development coach for the past 6 years.  With a competitive background in canoe and kayak slalom and wildwater, including top ten finishes internationally as a junior and senior in both disciplines, Nic has developed a coaching method that is tailored to each athlete's specific needs and personal goals, and which helps them achieve those goals in the most positive and balanced manner possible.

In addition to leading recent US development trips to Europe and Canada, Nic has coached US and International athletes in China, Africa and all across the US and has coached and organized successful high performance camps since 2004.

Cathy Hearn

USA Canoe/Kayak National Canoe Slalom Coach since 2005, Cathy has been paddling for about 45 years.  She has competed and has podium experience in slalom, wildwater, sprint, outrigger and dragonboat paddling.  Competing internationally in whitewater since 1974, she has a full set of World Championship medals in wildwater and slalom. Cathy has competed at two Olympic Games (Barcelona, Atlanta: slalom kayak) and has coached at two Olympic Games (Athens: Italy, Beijing: USA).

Cathy Hearn has embraced the concept of peer coaching and mentoring since she was 9, and in the '80s began to formalize the Peer Coaching and Mentoring Project in Canoe-Kayak. Cathy's philosophy emphasizes the importance of vision, self-responsibility, creativity, engagement in the process and the collaborative use of resources.
