PURPOSE
The following event listing contains information and guidelines for the 2009 USA Canoe/Kayak Charlotte Open in Charlotte, North Carolina (USNWC), to be held on October 2-3.

RULES
The competitions will be run in accordance with the current ICF rules

RACE FORMAT
The race is open to all competitors.

COMPETITION FORMAT

  • Two (2) Qualification Runs on October 2.
  • Top 20 boats to Semi-Finals on October 3.
  • Top 10 boats to Finals on October 3.

PARTICIPATION
Although boats will be eliminated with this format, the results will only be reflected on paper.  All competitors are guaranteed to compete in all four (4) runs.

ACCREDITATION FEE
The entry fee is $60 per person. All athletes need to register through Active.com HERE. The entry fee includes official training time, event t-shirt and athlete hospitality.

WORLD RANKINGS
If you are competing for ICF Rankings, please contact your Federation for information. Only Athletes who are registered through their Federation will be recognized for ICF Rankings (Please note, only six (6) boats per class per Federation will be eligible for ICF Ranking).

  • ICF requires all Federations to enter their athletes for ICF Rankings. To register, please click here.
  • Deadline for entry into the ICF Rankings is September 18, 2009.

Please note that qualified athletes that are nominated by their Federation for ICF Rankings will still have to register with Active.com HERE.

ENTRY DEADLINE

  • The entry deadline for the USA Canoe/Kayak Charlotte Open: September 25, 2009  
  • Numerical entries submitted by Federations for the ICF Rankings are due: September 4, 2009
  • Nominals entries submitted by Federations for the ICF Rankings are due: September 18, 2009

OFFICIAL TRAINING

Official training will begin Tuesday prior to the race. There will be two (2) one hour training blocks allocated  for competitors. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

If you wish to have additional training times please contact David Hepp at dhepp@usnwc.org. Additional fees will apply for extratraining times.

MEDALS
Medals will be awarded in the following classes:

  • K-1 Men
  • K-1 Women
  • C-1 Men
  • C-1 Women
  • C-2 Men

START ORDER
Athletes will be ranked according to the most current ICF Rankings. Unranked athletes will be placed at the beginning of his/her class. The start order will be in reverse order meaning the #1 athlete will be the last athlete to start in his/her class.

DEMONSTRATION RUNS

  • Demonstration runs for Qualifications will be held on October 1.
  • Demonstration runs for SemiFinal/Final will be held October 2.

Any changes to the course will be posted on the results board.

ATHLETE CHECK-IN
All athletes are required to check-in. The check-in will take place on the morning of October 1.

BOAT CONTROL
Boat control equipment will be available to the athletes on October 1, 8:30am-11am at the Athlete Check in Tent.

Boat control will occur after athlete check-in on Thursday. Boats will be checked for weight, length, width, and the nose and tail dimensions. Life vests will be checked to ensure 6kg of up thrust in water. Helmets must meet ICF requirements.

TIMING AND SCORING
Timing is to the 100th second. Timing will be electronic with handheld backup.

COURSE CONFIGURATION
The course configuration has been agreed between the organizing committee, and USNWC. The channel configuration will be maintained for the competition from September 26 to October 3.

START AND FINISH
The start and finish will be denoted by signs Thursday, prior to the Demonstration Runs

START INTERVAL
There will be a 60 second start interval between each athlete 5 minutes between classes. A 30 minute break between Qualification runs on Friday and a 30 minute break between Semi-Finals and Finals on Saturday 

TEAM LEADER INQUIRY, PROTEST
Although this is a C competition, athletes are encouraged to nominate a team leader to submit inquires and protests. Team leaders will be acknowledged during the athlete meeting.

GENERAL SAFETY
Two boats are to stay on the water after the finish.

DOPING CONTROL
In line with the world anti-doping authority (WADA), and the ICF doping control rules the United States anti-doping authority (USADA) may conduct random drug testing at this competition.
